I am always looking for ways to bond with my kids. Whether it be through hobbies, helping with homework, family trips, or reading before bed time. Truthfully I can’t believe how blessed I am as a husband and father.
Last week my kids started organized soccer. To be truthful, the reason we thought to get them in soccer was because my daughter brought home a flyer and she showed an extreme amount of interest in it. My son is also at the age where he can begin playing sports so we made sure to sign him up as well. At the moment my daughter is a bit more adventurous and coordinated. She doesn’t mind getting sweaty while playing sports. My son on the other hand at the moment has specific things he doesn’t care for. For instance he hates to be dirty or even have visible dirt on his hands. He also hates to sweat which is not the norm for boys.
During the first practice for soccer my son did very well. He listened, followed the instructions from the coach and appeared to enjoy it. During a brief water break he came over to me and told me he wanted to stop practicing so his sister could participate. He wasn’t saying that because of concern for his sister, he just didn’t like that he was sweating.
My daughter’s class took the field after my son finished up with his class and she did very well. She was the only left handed/footed player on the team. Not that it mattered she was a lefty but I just thought it was neat. She enjoyed the physical activity and did very well during the practice.
I am hoping to be able to use this sport as a path to bonding more with my children. I think sports are an easy way for a parent to bond with their kids. Not only by showing support during games but to be involved with how well they do. I am hoping to take my kids to the park soon to just kick the ball around and give them a chance to show me what they have learned.
Dragon Box iPhone App
I just wanted to write a quick update on Dragon Box iPhone App game that teaches children (or anyone) the basics of Algebra. My daughter finished the game perfectly (three stars in all the levels). I promised her a prize if she finished it and she chose a remote control helicopter. She was very excited about getting a prize for winning a game (and I don’t blame her). I then realized there were bonus levels as well and promised her another small prize if she completed it. She finished it very quickly and received a second small prize. Now she is asking me to find more games like Dragon Box where she can learn and win prizes. But with that being said, what 8 year old knows the basics of Algebra? My daughter now knows the basics.
AROUND THE NET
Dad Bloggers
My friend Eric is a stay at home dad and has a blog called “Dad on the Run”. He shares what is going on in his family quite frequently and typically has something funny to say on his Facebook posts. A few days ago he said something on Facebook that made me laugh out loud. He said,” If you ever see a dad with a diaper in his back pocket, punch him in the throat. Do you have any idea what a diaper does to a washing machine?” I could completely relate because I myself had done that in the past and it was a mistake that I would never make again. Dads, if this hasn’t happened to you already I can tell you now that you have been warned.
Gadgets for Dad
I was reading a magazine the other day and came across something pretty cool for dads to be. It was scrubs to wear while you are in the room with your wife when she gives birth. The scrubs have “I’m the daddy” written on the back of them. I thought that something like that would be pretty cool to wear on the day that his baby was born. I don’t know if those scrubs will be for every dad but I am sure some dads will enjoy them. You can find hoodies, hats and other great items at daddyscubs.com.
That’s all for now. Thanks for reading and be sure to say hi on the Facebook page.
